Rode back to Guwahati with the same insane driver but had the manager as an escort so all went smoothly. Flight to Dehli then Picked up Lynda at Delhi Airport and then off to Kathmandu. Pretty seamless but very hectic 24 hours.
Kathmandu airport was insane as well, there were three large flights all just landed and only two small luggage belts. No rhyme or reason to the way the were loaded and just flung all over each other. Of course there were some large groups of 30-40 expedition bags entwined with the regular assortment of backpacks etc. They overloaded the track so it skipped its rails and stopped moving so all the luggage was strewn all over the floor and it was a giant free for all. So that was kind of fun, I tend to do ok in that type of situation but there were some elderly travelers quite distressed. Felt sorry for them but they were being helped by some airport folks so not much I could do.
Once we reached Kathmandu we did a walk about to re-familiarize ourselves with Thamel, the tourist center of Kathmandu. It changed pretty significantly in the past 20 or so years. All buildings are at least three stories usually 4 or 5 and tightly packed. Instead of old used mountaineering stores all over the place there are high end outlets off all the best brands. The other change was the incredible number of tourists here, the streets were literally packed. In Thamel there were more tourists in the streets than locals during the day. Bit of a zoo, but it was nice to be back.
